Sonorous duel between two top European teams: on Wednesday evening, the Netherlands and Spain will meet for a friendly match in the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.

Before their decisive group games in the Nations League, both national coaches test again against a top-class opponent.

The two national teams meet at eye level, which is made clear by Holland vs. Spain also has the odds of the best betting providers, which are extremely balanced.

A look at the last results of both teams shows that the Netherlands have not scored a goal in three of their four games, while in Spain there were few goals and only one team scored goals (three times Spain won to zero, one lost without scoring).

Holland : The Dutch are going through a small performance slump: The Elftal have been waiting for a win for four games, the last was at the beginning of September in the opening game of the Nations League against Poland (1-0).

Since then, however, it has not really worked out with either winning or scoring goals. Twice they scored 0: 1 at home (against Italy in the Nations League and in a friendly against Mexico), while in Bosnia and Italy there were two draws (0: 0, 1: 1).

Convincing is different, two measly goals and only one win in five games in the 2020 calendar year are simply not good. Holland only ranks third in the Nations League Group F. Before the last two games start here on November 15 and 18, there will be another test on Wednesday.

Against Spain, the Dutch want to gain self-confidence for the final spurt in the Nations League, but scoring goals will also be difficult against the Iberians, as they stand for a defensive that is difficult to overcome (only two goals against in five games in 2020). So while Holland hardly scores goals, Spain allows only a few.

Coach Frank de Boer will have to find a way to inject his Elftal back into the joy of playing that it was just showing in 2019. The last four games without a win for the Dutch were between November 2013 and May 2014. This gloomy series should come to an end – otherwise it will gradually become uncomfortable for de Boer, who was installed in the summer.

Spain : It was a bit bumpy for the Spaniards recently, albeit not as badly as for the Dutch: In the last game in the Nations League there was a surprising 0-1 in Ukraine, before that they were only 0-0 away from Portugal.

For two games in a row, the Spaniards, who are used to success and are actually known for their offensive game, remained without a goal. That should now get better in Amsterdam on Wednesday before the last two duels of the Nations League Group A, where Switzerland and Germany are waiting.

But especially abroad, the team of national coach Luis Enrique has recently had a hard time: Five away games in a row there was no more victory (four draws, one bankruptcy) – the longest winless series abroad for over 25 years (most recently you waited so long on an away win between November 1990 and March 1993).

Before the upcoming international matches, Luis Enrique has to complain about injury problems: Shooting star Ansu Fati from FC Barcelona tore his meniscus and is out for months, Seville’s right-back Jesus Navas (muscle injury) is also missing, as is Thiago Alcantara from Liverpool FC. All three players are permanent players in the team, they are represented by Marco Asensio (Real Madrid), Hector Bellerin (Arsenal) and Marcos Llorente (Atletico).

In addition, Koke and Alvaro Morata are back with the national team, they were not called up in the last nomination phase in September. Center forward Morata in particular – most recently in strong form at Juventus Turin – should help La Roja to become more dangerous again.

After a one-month break, another international week is ahead. With 3 games in one week, most nations have a tight schedule on their calendar. Many teams do not enter the Nations League until the weekend and have scheduled test games before the competitive games are played. One game that is incredibly explosive is the new edition of the 2010 World Cup final. Spain prevailed 1-0 in extra time and secured the first World Cup title in Spanish history. At the subsequent World Cup in Brazil, there was revenge and the Orange sent the defending champion at the time with 5-1 home. In terms of intensity and importance, the game on Wednesday cannot of course be compared with the games from that time. Nevertheless, both countries still have high-quality players in their ranks. It is not yet possible to say whether both coaches will let their best players play, but we are looking forward to an exciting and high-class game in the Johann-Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam on Wednesday evening.

Netherlands form & balance check

For the Netherlands, things are not going well in the Nations League. In a supposedly easier group, with Italy, Poland and Bosnia, the Elftal is currently in 3rd place. Above all on the offensive, there is a problem, as the team could only score 2 goals in 3 games. To the chagrin of the Dutch, head of defense Virgil van Dijk may be out until the EM next summer and leaves a small hole in the defensive. There is no question that the squad is so well staffed. All top performers play for the biggest teams in Europe and the squad has improved massively in recent years. After the big disappointment and the missed World Cup in 2018, there was a change at Oranje, which had a positive effect on the team. Despite the problems in the Nations League, we expect the group victory of last year's Nations League runners-up. In the final, the team lost to the Portuguese.

Spain form & balance check

It seems that Spain has still not fully recovered from the trauma of the 2014 World Cup. There the team was eliminated in the preliminary round and has not been as sovereign and outstanding since this tournament as before, when they became European champions twice in a row and celebrated their first world championship title. At the 2016 European Championships and 2018 World Cup, the team was eliminated in the round of 16. It seems as if the ingenuity in midfield that a Xavi or Iniesta brought with them is missing a little. Also since Fernando Torres there has not been a striker who is constantly causing a goal threat. The class of the squad is still undisputed and promising talents such as Ferran Torres or Ansu Fati are currently joining. Nevertheless, things are currently not going really well and the defeat against a B-Eleven from Ukraine was rather embarrassing. In the Nations League group, it will end up being head-to-head with the German national team. Next week there will be a direct duel between the favorites.
